A local iteration of Excellence in Surgical Supervision in April- RCS designed course with lots of tips and tricks on how to be the best sort of AES, updated to reflect the new ISCP site and curriculum. It is the perfect course for new consultants or senior trainees or more senior colleagues who neeed some educational supervision update and need to get to grips with the ISCP changes. 

It is a fun and practical course with lots of discussion and sharing of experince and best practice.

In the past we have some anaesthetists attend as well and they found it very useful too!

This blended learning course, builds upon the legacy of TrACE (Training and Assessment in the Clinical Environment). ESS emphasises the importance of the supervision relationship and the skills that underpin excellent surgical supervision, training and assessment.

Excellence in Surgical Supervision is highly interactive, drawing on the experience of participants and focuses on practical guidance. It explores the key stages of the supervision journey, including learning agreements, workplace-based assessments, reports and an overview of ARCPs, as well as tools for managing both poor and excelling trainee performance.

Excellence in Surgical Supervision is mapped against the GMC Standards for the Recognition and Approval of Trainers and reviews the key features of the 2021 curriculum – Capabilities in Practice and the Generic Professional Capabilities framework.

This course is designed for senior trainees (ST7–8), consultants and SAS grades who are, or who are about to become, designated clinical or educational supervisors: 

  • other medical and healthcare; 
  • professional development; 
  • consultant; 
  • SAS;
  • ST7 and ST8.
