Athur Harikrishnan

President

Athur (Hari) Harikrishnan is a Consultant Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgeon and trained in South Wales and East Anglia and is based in Sheffield. His interests include cancer, IBD and proctology. He is actively involved in teaching, training and simulation, TPD and runs several courses in Sheffield.

   

Jim Khan

President-Elect

Jim Khan is a specialist Colorectal Surgeon with a comprehensive training in general, laparoscopic and robotic surgery. Main areas of interest are colorectal cancer, robotic surgery, IBD and hernia surgery. Jim graduated in surgery form Wessex, followed by advanced fellowships in Colchester and Korea and is currently a Professor of Surgery at the University of Portsmouth 

   

Ian Jenkins

President-in-Waiting

Ian Jenkins is a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon at St Mark’s Hospital, appointed in 2008 following training in Coloproctology and Surgical Oncology in Scotland and at St Mark’s. A graduate of the University of Glasgow, he also completed postgraduate research in surgery in Glasgow.

He is a high-volume laparoscopic surgeon with specialist interests in colon and rectal cancer, IBD, enhanced recovery, and complex and recurrent cancer. He is committed to improving patient recovery after major bowel surgery and is an active National Laparoscopic Colorectal Trainer.

Ian has published and presented widely and leads collaborative research in cancer surgery, enhanced recovery, and surgical training. He is the Clinical Lead for Colorectal Cancer at St Mark’s and Northwick Park Hospitals.

   

Laura Hancock

Honorary Secretary

Laura Hancock is a consultant general and colorectal surgeon at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (Wythenshawe). Laura graduated from Imperial College School of Medicine, London and surgical training was undertaken in London, Oxford and the Northwest. This was followed by a National ALSGBI/RCS Eng Laparoscopic Colorectal Fellowship in Leeds in 2015.

   

Nicola Eardley

Sushil Maslekar 

Honorary Treasurer

Consultant general surgeon specialising in hernia repair, haemorrhoid treatment, pelvic floor surgery and implant surgery for continence, colorectal surgery and keyhole surgery.

   

Dorin Ziyaie

Assistant Honorary Treasurer

Dorin Ziyaie is an NHS Consultant Colorectal Surgeon and Honorary Senior Lecturer with specialist interests in colonic and rectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, and functional bowel disorders. She works within a multidisciplinary surgical unit with a strong focus on high-quality patient care and minimal access surgery, which makes up around 80% of her practice.

As a dedicated trainer and mentor, Dorin supports surgical trainees and newly appointed consultants, and contributes to well-established and newly developed postgraduate courses, delivered through Dundee University Skills Centres and as faculty on national and international courses.

She oversees a fellowship in pelvic floor surgery and has worked closely with the Pelvic Floor Society UK, serving two full terms as the Scottish Representative. Dorin is also an Intercollegiate Examiner and sits on the Surgical Specialty Board for General Surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

   

Catherine Boereboom

Chair Education and Training Committee

Cat Boereboom is a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon at Nottingham University Hospitals.

She completed higher surgical training in the East Midlands and was awarded her PhD on preoperative exercise in colorectal cancer patients.

She undertook a fellowship in pelvic floor surgery in Sheffield before returning to Nottingham to take up her consultant post in 2019.

She undertakes robotic colorectal cancer resections and specialises in pelvic floor surgery including rectopexy and sacral neuromodulation.

She currently Chairs the Education and Training Committee for the ACPGBI and is membership secretary for The Pelvic Floor Society.

She sits on the grants committee for Bowel Research UK

   

Tom Pinkney 

Chair, Multidisciplinary Committee

Tom Pinkney is a Professor of Surgery at University of Birmingham and Honorary Consultant Colorectal Surgeon at University Hospitals Birmingham. He is Director of the Birmingham Surgical Trials Consortium (BiSTC) and the Birmingham Centre for Observational and Prospective Studies (BiCOPS).  He is also Chair of the Research Committee of the European Society of Coloproctology and past Chair of the ACPGBI IBD Clinical Sub-Committee

   

Elaine Burns

Chair, Research and Audit Committee Chair

Elaine Burns is a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon at St Marks Hospital and Honorary Senior Lecturer at Imperial College London. Her area of clinical interest is colorectal surgery and in particular the surgical management of primary and recurrent colorectal cancer.

   

Katie Adams

External Affairs Committee Chair

Katie Adams is a consultant colorectal surgeon at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust where she is also the lead for gastrointestintal surgery.

She regularly presents at national and international academic meetings on colorectal surgery, including robotic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) surgery.
