Jim Khan

President

Jim Khan is a specialist Colorectal Surgeon with a comprehensive training in general, laparoscopic and robotic surgery. Main areas of interest are colorectal cancer, robotic surgery, IBD and hernia surgery. Jim graduated in surgery form Wessex, followed by advanced fellowships in Colchester and Korea and is currently a Professor of Surgery at the University of Portsmouth 

Ian Jenkins

President-Elect

Ian Jenkins is a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon at St Mark’s Hospital, appointed in 2008 following training in Coloproctology and Surgical Oncology in Scotland and at St Mark’s. A graduate of the University of Glasgow, he also completed postgraduate research in surgery in Glasgow.

He is a high-volume laparoscopic surgeon with specialist interests in colon and rectal cancer, IBD, enhanced recovery, and complex and recurrent cancer. He is committed to improving patient recovery after major bowel surgery and is an active National Laparoscopic Colorectal Trainer.

Ian has published and presented widely and leads collaborative research in cancer surgery, enhanced recovery, and surgical training. He is the Clinical Lead for Colorectal Cancer at St Mark’s and Northwick Park Hospitals.

Chris Cunningham

Chris Cunningham has been a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon and Honorary Senior Lecturer in Oxford since 2000. His major areas of clinical practice are the management of rectal cancer and pelvic floor disorders.

Nicola Eardley

Honorary Secretary

Nicola Eardley is a Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon at the Countess of Chester Hospital, with specialist interests in colorectal cancer and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

Previously Chair of the Association's Education and Training Committee, Nicola has a longstanding commitment to surgical education and professional development. She is Dean of Chester Medical School and an Honorary Associate Clinical Professor at the University of Chester, having previously held the same title at the University of Liverpool. She remains actively involved in undergraduate medical education and postgraduate surgical training.

Alongside her clinical practice, Nicola contributes to national initiatives in colorectal surgery, supporting high standards of patient care, education and workforce development. She is passionate about developing the next generation of surgeons and promoting excellence in colorectal practice through collaboration, innovation and education.

Katie Adams

Assistant Honorary Secretary

Katie Adams is a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon with her MHS practice at Guy’s & St Thomas’ Hospital in London where she is the Lead for Gastrointestinal Surgery at. She holds her colorectal surgery private practice at the Cleveland Clinic London.

After training in London she was awarded the FRCS Gold Medal and undertook a fellowship in Sydney, Australia. She has a PhD in Artificial Intelligence in Colorectal Surgery.

As a consultant she was part of the taskforce to set up and subsequently Chair of both the ACPGBI Early Years Consultant Network and the ACPGBI External Affairs Committee. She is now the Assistant Honorary Secretary and sits on the Executive Committee for the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain & Ireland.

A main tenet of her management style is managing with kindness, for which she was recently recognised as one of the 50 Leading Lights in the UK across public, private and third sector fields for Leading with Kindness.

She is a specialist in inflammatory bowel disease surgery, including robotic surgery and complex fistula surgery. She also has a wide experience in the management of haemorrhoids, fissures and anal skin tags. She has presented nationally and internationally on the field of colorectal disease and the emerging field of robotic surgery adoption in inflammatory bowel disease.

Dorin Ziyaie

Honorary Treasurer

Dorin Ziyaie is an NHS Consultant Colorectal Surgeon with specialist interests in colonic and rectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, and functional bowel disorders. She works within a multidisciplinary surgical unit with a strong focus on high-quality patient care and minimal access surgery including Robotic Assisted Surgery.

As a dedicated trainer and mentor, Dorin supports surgical trainees and newly appointed consultants, and contributes to well-established and newly developed postgraduate courses, delivered through Dundee University Surgical Skills Centres and as faculty on national and international courses.

She oversees a fellowship in pelvic floor surgery and has worked closely with the Pelvic Floor Society UK, serving two full terms as the Scottish Representative. Dorin is also an Intercollegiate Examiner and is the Vice Chair for the Surgical Specialty Board for General Surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

Catherine Boereboom

Chair Education and Training Committee

Cat Boereboom is a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon at Nottingham University Hospitals.

She completed higher surgical training in the East Midlands and was awarded her PhD on preoperative exercise in colorectal cancer patients.

She undertook a fellowship in pelvic floor surgery in Sheffield before returning to Nottingham to take up her consultant post in 2019.

She undertakes robotic colorectal cancer resections and specialises in pelvic floor surgery including rectopexy and sacral neuromodulation.

She currently Chairs the Education and Training Committee for the ACPGBI and is membership secretary for The Pelvic Floor Society.

She sits on the grants committee for Bowel Research UK

Tom Pinkney

Tom Pinkney is a Professor of Surgery at University of Birmingham and Honorary Consultant Colorectal Surgeon at University Hospitals Birmingham. He is Director of the Birmingham Surgical Trials Consortium (BiSTC) and the Birmingham Centre for Observational and Prospective Studies (BiCOPS).  He is also Chair of the Research Committee of the European Society of Coloproctology and past Chair of the ACPGBI IBD Clinical Sub-Committee

Dale Vimalachandran

Chair, Research and Audit Committee Chair

Dale Vimalachandran has been a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon at the Countess of Chester since 2010. He is a Reader/Associate Professor in the Department of Molecular and Clinical Cancer Medicine at the University of Liverpool, where he runs a successful colorectal cancer research group.

He qualified in 1997 and undertook specialist fellowships at the Cleveland Clinic in the USA, trauma units in South Africa and pelvic floor surgery in Manchester.

He offers expertise in all aspects of colorectal surgery and general surgery, with a specialist interest in colorectal cancer, IBS, diverticular disease and colonoscopy. He is the lead investigator for the worldwide DAMASCUS study, looking at the management of diverticular disease.

Heman Joshi

External Affairs Committee Chair

Heman Joshi is Clinical Director for Digestive Diseases at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon with specialist interests in complex pelvic surgery, including rectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease and ileoanal pouch surgery, pelvic floor disorders, and mesh complications.

He is an experienced multi-platform robotic colorectal surgeon and CMR Surgical Versius Proctor, supporting the training of surgeons in robotic colorectal surgery. He is also a Bowel Cancer Screening Programme colonoscopist, performing advanced diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy.

He is an AAC Assessor for the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
