Biography

After completing MS in colorectal cancer genetics at University College London and training in East Anglia, Samson undertook a laparoscopic fellowship in Australia and completed a Masters in minimally invasive surgery at Adelaide University. During his training he was awarded travelling fellowships to Cleveland Clinic and Japanese Cancer Centre; also recently as an ESCP travelling fellow to robotic centres in Seoul, Korea. He has special interests in advanced minimally invasive procedures including laparoscopic TME, robotic (certified by the European Academy of Robotic Colorectal Surgery) and transanal minimally invasive surgery; other interests include fistula surgery and ultra-radical gynae-oncological surgery (joint operation with gynae-oncologists). Samson is the cancer lead of the colorectal department. He holds an Honorary Clinical Associate Professor position at Nottingham University and academic interests include randomised trials and systematic reviews to enhance patient outcomes. Samson is an Associate Editor of Colorectal Disease, Editor of Cochrane Colorectal Cancer Group, Editorial Board member of Techniques in Coloproctology and a member of ESCP Programme/Education committees. He is a passionate trainer and teaches the Royal College of Surgeons laparoscopic courses regularly. He is a faculty member of MS Coloproctology at the University of East Anglia and a steering committee member of the ESCP Colorectal Robotic Surgery Working Group.
