Biography

I graduated from Imperial College School of Medicine in 2009 with MB BS and the Associateship of the Imperial College School of Medicine (AICSM). As part of my undergraduate training I undertook research into Reproductive Medicine and Paediatric Infectious Diseases as part of an intercalated BSc.(Hons) in Medical Sciences with Paediatrics. I was appointed to the Kent, Surrey & Sussex Higher Surgical Training programme in 2013 following Core Training in the same region. My particular interests lie in the multi-modality treatment of colon and rectal cancer, anal cancer, transanal and endoscopic surgery, fistulae and pelvic floor dysfunction. As of September 2015, I have been appointed to a Clinical Research Fellow post under the supervision of Prof the Lord Darzi at the section of Biosurgery & Surgical Technology at St Mary's Hospital & Imperial College, London. As a full-time PhD student, the topic of my thesis is a next-generation multi-omics interrogation of the radiotherapy response in rectal cancer. My work is supported by grants awarded to me by both the Bowel Disease Research Foundation (BDRF) and the Royal College of Surgeons/Saven Research and Development Programme, as well as institutional support from the Imperial CRUK Centre and the NIHR Imperial Biomedical Research Centre (BRC). Awarded the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) Scholar-In-Training Award in 2018, I have presented multiple papers at both this and other high-impact meetings in the fields of Colorectal Surgery, Cancer Research and Discovery Science. Amongst these include the prize-winning paper at the 11th European Colorectal Congress in St Gallen in 2017. Finally, I am the Treasurer for the Kent, Surrey & Sussex Research Collaborative and have been instrumental in the inception, development and execution of the KSS Surgical Symposium.
