Biography

Nick Lees graduated from Oxford University in 1992. He undertook much of his postgraduate surgical training in the North West of England and was awarded a DM in 2001 for his research into colorectal carcinogenesis. He was appointed as a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon at Salford Royal NHS FT in 2004. His clinical practice includes treating patients with the breadth of colorectal conditions including colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease and anorectal disease. He also treats patients with intestinal failure, often the result of complications of previous abdominal surgery and in that capacity receives referrals from around England and Wales. He has been the vice-chair of the Greater Manchester and Cheshire Colorectal Cancer clinical subgroup and has served on the Council of the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland. In 2011 he contributed to the Royal College of Surgeons of England's development of standards for the care of Higher Risk General Surgical Patients. He has been a Clinical Director for Surgery at Salford Royal NHS FT since 2011. In 2012 he was appointed by NHS Greater Manchester as Clinical Champion for General Surgery, leading a transformational review of the delivery of surgery in the conurbation. He represents the Royal College of Surgeons of England on the National Emergency Laparotomy Audit.
