Biography
1993 - Qualified from Nottingham University Medical School
1998 - Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons. Specialist training in Leeds, Nottingham and Sheffield
2002 - MD Thesis, research on colorectal cancer secondaries.
2006 - did an Clinical Fellowship in Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery at St Mark’s Hospital.
2006 - Appointed as Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon at Rotherham Hospital.
Since then, Mr Slater has developed his clinical interests, which have included laparoscopic and minimal invasive surgery techniques, in the fields of general surgery and coloproctology (eg laparoscopy, TEMS etc.). He also have an interest in developing Peri-Operative Care techniques and has successfully introduced an Enhanced Recovery Programme into Rotherham Hospital. Mr Slater has been actively involved in providing surgical training, particularly in laparoscopic colorectal surgery. He was an active trainer in the Laparoscopic Colorectal Preceptorship Programme (LapCo), providing training to established Consultants. He is also an active trainer in endoscopy, and has trained many medical and nurse endoscopists to independent practice. Between 2010 and 20 Mr Slater was lead clinician for Endoscopy at Rotherham Hospital, successfully navigating through 2 JAG visits. Since 2013 he has been Chief Clinical Information Officer/Associate Medical Director. He is involved in setting and delivering the Trusts’ digital strategy. Since 2019 he has been a member of the Colonoscopy Subcommittee of the Association of Coloproctology.
