Biography

I qualified in 1995 from Guys and St Thomas' and started out in O&G. I moved during the crisis in this specialty when there were no training posts into surgical training and completed this in the West Midlands. I had great support throughout my training and was lucky enough to get onto the Ethicon laparoscopic fellowship in Leeds with Pete Sagar. From the day I started in Leeds until the present day I still complete over 90% of my colorectal resections laparoscopically. No exclusion criteria. I keep a careful audit of short and medium term outcomes with excellent results. I was appointed as a Consultant Surgeon at the University of North Staffordshire and worked with some really great people. After being a consultant in the NHS for 3 years and becoming frustrated by the system I moved to New Zealand to live the dream. The change has been a good one. I have broadened my scope of practice and picked up new skills, although I still enjoy doing and teaching the operative colorectal work.
