Biography

Mr Akinfemi Akingboye is a Consultant laparopscopic Colorectal and General surgeon at the Russell Hall Hospital, Dudley, West Midlands, England. He is currently the Clinical governance, research and surgical led for inflammatory bowel disease. I am a JAG accredited endoscopist for both upper and lower GI with experience in polypectomies and endoscopic mucosa resection. His areas of clinical interest are the surgical management of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), interventional endoscopy, advanced laparoscopic surgery, hereditary cancer syndromes, colorectal cancer, proctology and emergency management of gastrointestinal diseases. He graduated from the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan with a Bachelors of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) and then relocated to the UK after his internship at the University College Hospital, Ibadan (2000) He completed his higher surgical training (Residency) in General and Colorectal Surgery from Cambridge Deanery. He also undertook a subspecialist colorectal fellowship at St Mark’s Hospital prior to taking up a consultant post. He was the recipient of the Braun Aesculap Travelling Scholarship awarded by the Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons Great Britain & Ireland which afforded him the privilege of travel fellowship at the Mayo clinic, Rochester, Minnesota USA (2016). Mr Akingboye completed a period of academic research program at the Barts and the London Hospital, which led to the award of a Doctorate of Medicine degree by the Queen Mary University of London (2012). He is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeon, England and an associate fellow of the Higher Education Academy of England. He has published in several scientific journals and functioned in the capacity of editorial board of scientific journals at various times during his career. He is a member of the European and British Coloproctology society and Association of laparoscopic surgeon of the Great Britain and Ireland. Mr Akinfemi Akingboye is currently the leader of an international colorectal collaborative research group; the group is interested in comparative disparity genetic study with focus on Colorectal cancer amongst Caucasian and America-Africa. The group has ongoing collaborative research work in UCH Ibadan, Russells Hall Hospital, West Midland, UK and the Hunter’s College of the University of New York.
