Biography

Ash Prabhudesai is Consultant Colorectal, Laparoscopic & General Surgeon at The Hillingdon and Mount Vernon Hospitals , where he has a varied general and colorectal surgical practice. He is also Honorary Senior Lecturer at the Imperial College School of Medicine, London. His main interests are minimally invasive surgery for bowel disorders, including cancer and inflammatory bowel disease, along with abdominal wall hernias and gall bladder disease. He also maintains a special interest in diverticular disease and its complications. He is keen on minimally invasive proctology e.g. Botox for fissures and haemorrhoidal artery ligation for haemorrhoids. He is a core member of the Colorectal Cancer Multidisciplinary Team at the Hillingdon Hospital. He enjoys teaching both in the operating theatres and outside. He examines for the Final MBBS examinations in General Surgery. He has presented at various national and international meetings, and he always encourages his trainees to participate in clinical research, which in his opinion helps continuously improving patient care. He is regularly invited to talk to General Practitioners. Ash underwent training at various prestigious GI Units in London inc St Mark's hospital, Charing Cross and St Mary's Hospitals. He also undertook a period of research about rectal cancer at St George's Hospital, for which he was awarded the MD degree. He was selected for a Fellowship in Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery at the Frimley Park Hospital in Surrey, which he successfully completed. He has, and continues to present at national and international meetings. He is interested in clinical research and has published in various journals. He encourages trainees to undertake audit projects, which help to improve patient care. He is passionate about teaching and regularly conducts teaching sessions for medical students and surgical trainees.He also organises interactive sessions for GPs.
