Specialist Interests: • Laparoscopic colorectal resections for benign and malignant disease • Diagnostic and therapeutic colonoscopy • Surgical management of inflammatory bowel disease: member of IBD MDT • Surgical management of stage 4 endometriosis: member of endometriosis MDT • Management of patients with inherited colorectal cancer syndromes: member of regional polyposis MDT Biography: I have been a Consultant in General and Colorectal Surgery since 2014. I worked at Royal Lancaster Infirmary for a decade before moving to Royal Preston Hospital in 2024. I have an established practice in laparoscopic and colorectal resections, with low complication and mortality rates. I am a JAG accredited colonoscopist. I enjoy leading the on-call team, and the variety of the emergency surgical workload. I’ve undertaken national quality improvement projects in emergency surgery and laparotomy. I’m the surgical lead for the National Emergency Laparotomy Audit (NELA) at Preston, having had a role on the national audit team previously. I have a particular interest in inherited colorectal cancer syndromes including Lynch Syndrome and Polyposis and researched this during my training, leading to the award of MD. I oversee genetic testing for Lynch and Polyposis within the Trust. Since moving to Preston, I’ve had developed my interest in IBD and endometriosis, and am a core member of these MDTs. I am absolutely dedicated to surgical training. I was the Training Programme Director for General Surgery for Greater Manchester and Lancashire for three years, and now I run the regional education programme. Research: As part of my training, I spent two years in full time research leading to the award of MD. During this time I led the research project, obtained research grants, and was awarded the prestigious BJS prize at the Association of Coloproctology meeting in 2008. I have published widely; nine first author papers, and a book chapter in a recommended intercollegiate text. Since my consultant appointment, I have continued to contribute to collaborative research, and have acted as local PI for a number of national surgical trials: EPOCH, PPAC, COVID-Surg, EAGLE, SUNFLOWER and ROSSINI.
