Biography

Mr Bassuni graduated with a degree in Medicine in 1981 and obtained a Master Degree in Surgery from Alexandria University in 1985, Fellowship of Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland in 1991 and Fellowship of the Intercollegiate Board of Royal Colleges of Surgeons in 2000. After comprehensive training in the field of General Surgery in Alexandria University; Egypt and King Abdul-Aziz University, Saudi Arabia, he was appointed a specialist in Surgery in a teaching hospital in Kuwait. Mr Bassuni gained further training in UK, mainly in University Hospital of Wales, and other highly sepcialised centres in England and Europe. Mr Bassuni was appointed as a Consultant Surgeon to Rotherham Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in 2000 and has been the lead clinician for Colorectal Cancer Diseases from 2000 to 2011. Mr Bassuni is the original author of many articles published in peer-reviewed journals. He is regularly invited as a guest speaker in many national and international conferences in the field of General, Laparoscopic and Colorectal Surgery. Mr Bassuni is also an honorary Senior Lecturer of Surgery in Sheffield University, England Mr Bassuni is an examiner with the Board of examiners of the Royal College of Surgeons (England, Edinburgh, Ireland and Glasgow) Mr Bassuni is a member of many surgical societies and associations, in Britain and international communities. Mr Bassuni recently obtained a certificate in Medical Law from the University of Glasgow, attaining a Post Graduate Certificate of Medical Law. Studying the principles of Medical Law and Ethics, Clinical Negligence, Legal aspects of Consenting adults for investigation and treatment, consenting adults who lack mental capacity and product liability Law. Mr Bassuni has built a large Medico-legal practice dealing with clinical negligence cases in General, Colorectal and Laparoscopic Surgery. Areas of clinical expertise in coloprctology: Diagnostic and therapeutic upper and lower GI Endoscopies including polypectomy, submucous dissection, re-canalisation and metallic stents insertion Day care treatment of anal conditions including Haemorrhoids, fistulas, fissures and other anal conditions Treatment of complex anal fistulas Management of colorectal cancer especially rectal and low rectal caner laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery Management of functional bowel disorders and pelvic floor disorders Laparoscopic treatment of severe Grade IV pelvic endometriosis
