Biography

Ian Jenkins qualified from the University of Glasgow in 1997 and trained in Coloproctology and Surgical Oncology in Scotland with specialist training in St. Mark’s Hospital, London. He was appointed as Consultant Surgeon to St. Mark’s Hospital and Honorary Senior Lecturer in Imperial College, London in 2008. He leads the St. Mark's Complex Cancer Clinic, a multi-specialty team treating patients and developing interventions for patients with advanced and recurrent colorectal and anal cancers and other pelvic rarities. He has a high volume laparoscopic colorectal resection practice treating patients with colon and rectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease related dysplasia and cancer, other complex pelvic neoplastic disease and intestinal endometriosis. He is currently chairs the ACPGBI Advanced Malignancy Subcommittee and is a founder member of UK Pelvic Exenteration Network. He was a trainer for the Lapco National Laparoscopic Colorectal Training Programme and supervises the RCS Accredited MiMICC Fellowship, that encompasses minimally and maximally invasive surgery for colorectal cancer. His interests centre on improving the quality and rapidity of recovery of patients after major and complex major surgery and has published and presented widely on colorectal and intestinal diseases, being involved in collaborative research and trials in cancer surgery, enhanced recovery and surgical training. His current scientific interests relate to host body composition and immunity manipulation in colorectal cancer. He is on the United European Gastroenterology [UEG] Scientific Committee and Postgraduate Training Programme Committee and was Honorary Secretary of Royal Society of Medicine Coloproctology Section 2017-2018. He is Surgeon to the Royal Household. Previous awards include American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons (ASCRS) International Fellowship [2010] and Independent Healthcare Awards Outstanding Contribution Award [2013].
