Biography
Studied medicine at St John's College, Cambridge and Guy's Hospital Medical School, London. Qualified in 1987 with Distinction in Surgery. Trained in South West Thames Region, Oxford, Gloucester and Bristol before appointment as Consultant Surgeon in 1999. Awarded a MRC Clinical Training Fellowship for research in Oxford, appointed as a Hunterian Professor (Royal College of Surgeons of England) in 1996-7 and awarded the John of Arderne Medal by the RSM Section of Coloproctology. Founding President of the Dukes' Club.
Offer specialist practice in the management of colorectal disease with particular clinical interest in bowel screening, colonoscopy, proctology, IBD and functional bowel disorders.
During early consultant career, additional roles focused on training and education. Subsequently moved in to more clinical managerial roles serving as Clinical Director of General Surgery (2008-12), Local MDT lead (2001-10) and Cancer Network Tumour Group Chair (2006-10).
Served as Chair of the Joint Advisory Group on GI Endoscopy (the JAG) for 5 years from 2011-2016
