Biography

Consultant Dermatologist and Dermatological and Laser Surgeon, qualified in 1987 from the University Of Wales College of Medicine, having gained a BSc(Hons) in Biochemistry as an intercalated degree in 1984. My MRCP and FRCP followed. I set up the Canterbury Skin and Laser Clinic in 2003 and remain a director of this clinic and the CMO for The Dermatology Partnership, the largest private group of Consultant Dermatologist led clinics in the UK. I moved into the active management of haemorrhoids when I introduced direct current electrotherapy to the UK in 2013. Since then, I have led the team in developing our own electrotherapy medical device, called the eXroid Haemorrhoid Treatment System. I am now Chairman/Medical Director of this company with our international growth now taking shape, which, along with getting this safer treatment into the NHS, is our key ambition. We were awarded a 2023 King's Award for Innovation and are very proudly CQC "Outstanding" in terms of our clinical service. I have, along the way, become a director of other companies, including Doctors Club Ltd, Club Funding Ltd. and more recently, Mantara Health Ltd. The latter company has launched the first commercially available MHRA-registered, UKCA marked Pharmacogenomics device in the UK, the Mantara PGx DNA test. We are looking to really promote a more appropriate and safer way for doctors and other prescribing HCPs to prescribe better suited medications to patients (see: mantara.co). My passions are for the patients I treat in dermatology and in proctology, and for the wider health economy as we look to find safer and better ways to care for our patients with internal haemorrhoids and through personalised medical prescribing.
