About ACPGBI

The ACPGBI was saddened to learn of the death of Professor Angelita Habr-Gama.

Few individuals have had such a profound influence on the care of patients with rectal cancer. Through determination, careful observation and the courage to challenge established practice, Angelita opened the door to organ-preserving approaches that have improved the lives of countless patients around the world.

Those fortunate enough to meet her will remember not only her academic achievements but also her generosity, warmth and willingness to support others. She combined intellectual rigour with genuine kindness and remained an inspiration to colleagues and trainees throughout her career.

Her contribution to colorectal surgery will endure through the patients she helped, the surgeons she taught and the ideas she championed.

We extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends and close colleagues. She will be remembered with great respect and affection.
