‘Close-it-Quick’ collaborative
With nearly two in five patients (38%) having an unclosed diverting ileostomy 18-months after anterior resection, the NBOCA State of the Nation Report 2025 highlights the urgent need to improve ileostomy closure rates across England and Wales. Prolonged delays are associated with substantial physical, psychological, and social consequences for patients, as reduced quality of life. The impact of delays on the NHS and your Trust include increased demand on stoma care services, and increased risk of avoidable readmissions due to stoma complications, both of which can contribute to increased financial strain.
We are offering Trusts the opportunity to join the national NBOCA/RCS England/ACPGBI-led ‘Close-it-Quick’ collaborative. Participation will help improve patient care and quality of life, reduce unwarranted delays, streamline ileostomy closure pathways, and deliver efficiency gains and cost savings for your Trust. The project follows a proven model used in other successful RCS England QI collaboratives, offering a structured and effective approach to improvement.
