(Last updated 7 May 2025)
Dear Colleagues,
As we move through 2025, ACPGBI remains committed to driving excellence in coloproctology through innovation, education, and collaboration. Over the past six months, the ACPGBI Executive, alongside our committees and subcommittees, has been working to shape a bold new organisational strategy to support our members and advance our specialty.
This work is grounded in our mission:
To promote the best clinical practice for people with colorectal diseases in Great Britain and Ireland through the provision of high-quality patient care, education and research
Our strategy development has been a truly collaborative process, defining the core objectives to achieve the aims of driving excellence. These objectives have guided the prioritisation of the extensive work taking place across ACPGBI’s 16 committees and subcommittees. Following the input of over 100 experts and patient representatives, we are pleased to share our vision for the future of your ACPGBI.
None of this would be possible without our members, many of whom have played a vital role in shaping this strategy through their contributions to our committees and working groups. While we are excited to share this roadmap with you, this is just the beginning—our work will continue to evolve as we strive to deliver the highest standards of care for patients and support the entire coloproctology community.
Our latest strategy focuses on six key objectives to enhance clinical practice, training, research, and patient care across Great Britain and Ireland.
🔹 A Strong Voice for Coloproctology – To act as the voice of coloproctology in Great Britain and Ireland, shaping and guiding current practice and policy, in collaboration with partner organisations and patients.
🔹 World-Class Education & Training – To develop, support and deliver the highest quality education and training in coloproctology. Examples include; Expanding our courses (such as the Advanced Coloproctology Course), fellowships, and meetings, including the Annual Meeting with a dedicated Training Hub and Endovillage.
🔹 Pioneering Research – To facilitate the engagement with and dissemination of research in coloproctology. New initiatives include the ACPGBI-BRUK Research App and national collaborative projects.
🔹 Raising Standards in Patient Care – To improve the quality and outcomes of care for people with colorectal diseases. Improvement through multidisciplinary collaboration, national guidelines, and quality improvement initiatives.
🔹 Enhancing Colorectal Disease Journal – To establish Colorectal Disease as the premier colorectal disease journal in the world.
🔹 Shaping the Future with AI & Robotics – To promote the safe adoption of AI, robotic and digital technology into colorectal surgery for patient benefit.
To all of our members and contributors: Thank you for your commitment to improving the lives of patients with colorectal disease.
