We are delighted to introduce our new aSSLs for Colorectal Surgery. These associate SSL posts have been appointed to drive research trials forward in colorectal surgery.

The successful applicants have been appointed for 3 years and work alongside the SSLs:

  • Susan Moug (colorectal)
  • Dale Vimalachandran (colorectal)
Jessica Banks is a General Surgery registrar in Yorkshire and is an Academic Clinical Fellow at the University of Sheffield. Her research interests include improving clinical outcomes in Emergency Surgery andmixed methodology research to improve the support available tosurgeons throughout their training. In her role as an aSSL she wants to improve engagement in research and improve research opportunities for early career surgeons. Carly Bisset is an ST5 general surgery trainee in the West of Scotland. She has recently completed a PhD in MedicalEducation with the University of Aberdeen, and has research interests inqualitative research methodology, surgeon personality and improving quality oflife for patients following gastrointestinal surgery Steve Chapman is a general surgery registrar in Yorkshire and a postdoctoral lecturer at the University of Leeds. He is interested in how we can help patients to access timely surgical care and to recover well after surgery. He is enthusiastic about developing opportunities for trainees and colleagues to lead high quality research

Alice Murray is ST8 Colorectal trainee and current Pelvic Floor Fellow at St Mark’s Hospital. She undertook her PhD at Imperial College while based at New York Presbyterian Hospital in their Center forInnovation and Outcomes Research. She was a Harkness Fellow in Policy andPractice based at Harvard Institute of Global Health, looking at theincentivisation of Value in surgery. She is interested in how we can developand utilise existing national databases to drive surgical research and improve outcomes that matter to patients
