About ACPGBI

ACPGBI’s proactive Research & Audit Committee, led by Austin Acheson, has been on the road again hosting the 6th Colorectal Research and Trial Engagement (CReaTE) Roadshow for the East of England in Newmarket on 17th October 2019. The latest event was convened by regional hosts Gabrielle Thorpe, Chair of the Association of Coloproctology Nurses, and local Chapter Representative Neil Keeling.

CReaTE RoadshowAs always, emphasis was on encouraging recruitment to ACPGBI-led trials. The first session focused on East Anglia’s PREPARE-ABC trial with Chief Investigator James Hernon leading the session with input from the BDRF and Norwich Clinical Trials Unit as well as discussion with Mr Ami Mishra and his team from West Suffolk (including a patient) who are active recruiters to the study. Next followed Research under the Spotlight which updated the audience on 5 really important and well known portfolio trials (CIPHER, PITSTOP ALLEGRO ROSSINI-2 STARTREC) RCS Surgical Speciality lead Dale Vimalachandran gave an inspirational talk on how a moderate sized DGH in Chester was able to expand its research portfolio over a short period of time and become one of the most prolific recruiters to NIHR colorectal portfolio studies in the country. This was followed by a mini granule session which gave tips on how we should introduce randomised studies to patients. The afternoon was wrapped up with a Question and Answers session and the day was then concluded by ACPGBI President Nicola Fearnhead. Another successful roadshow and it was particularly great to see so many colorectal, stoma and research nurses attending. Look out for further CReaTE roadshows in 2020.
