The 30 day mortality post SACT workbook has been published on the SACT website

SACT have released the final version of the workbook along with the following documents:
  • Companion brief detailing official trust comments on their data
  • Evaluation report describing the feedback received from trusts and commissioners on the workbook
  • Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document providing responses to queries raised on the data
All of these documents are accessible from the SACT website under “30 day mortality post-systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT) workbook (2018 release)” The workbook documents 30 day mortality post SACT for all trusts, Cancer Alliances and regions in England, with annual rates for 2015 and 2016 across a selected range of cancers. Analysis has generated crude mortality rates that are not risk adjusted and has been designed as a pilot for a future, routine 30-day mortality feed to support clinical practice at NHS trusts. This release is a follow up to the previous Lancet Oncology publication which analysed  30-day mortality post-SACT for breast and lung cancer companion report (www.gov.uk/government/publications/chemotherapy-for-breast-and-lung-cancer-30-day-mortality). The workbook was released to NHS trusts in December 2018. Trusts were invited to review their data, request NHS numbers of their patients who died within 30 days of receiving SACT and provide an official comment before general publication. Trusts were also asked to complete an evaluation survey to provide feedback on the data release. Responses to this survey have informed our evaluation report and proposed next steps.
