About ACPGBI

The NASBO report was launched at the University of Birmingham on the 1st December 2017, and 50 collaborators from the across the country attended. The report had been prepared based upon 2,434 cases entered from 131 hospitals across the UK in early 2017.

There was in depth discussion of findings led by a panel including members of ACPGBI, ASGBI, NELA, BAPEN, and trainee research groups. Delegates were involved in these discussions and discussed the practicalities of managing SBO in their hospital. Break-out groups in the afternoon included discussion of the management of SBO in the context of cancer, and the management of obstructed hernias. The latter session highlighted the surprise findings of mortality of 13% in patients treated for obstructive groin hernia. Overall, this was an informative day which shared findings from the audit and provided feedback from clinicians. This will be helpful when designing future quality improvement and research projects. We are grateful to all our funders, especially BDRF who supported this meeting. The NASBO steering group are preparing manuscripts for publication in the new year. A copy of the report can be found on the NASBO website
