About ACPGBI
Funding for six posts in different surgical specialties is now available, including dedicated monies for specialty leads in ENT, orthopaedics and head and neck surgery. The other three appointments are available across all other surgical disciplines. I will ensure that you are notified as further funding becomes available. Surgical specialty leads require full support from one or more specialist associations depending on the scope of their leadership. Application should be accompanied by letters of support from the relevant associations and the same associations will be invited to attend the interview for candidates within each discipline. These posts will be advertised at the end of July with interviews planned for late October 2012. To avoid delay, your association is not required to carry out shortlisting, but you will be notified of candidates in your specialist field who are being invited to interview, at least six weeks beforehand. Surgical specialty leads will play a vital role in working with their associations to develop networks of clinical investigators in their discipline and facilitate easy access to the surgical trials units, who will support the development of new studies. This programme is overseen by CRISC. The list of existing members are appended to this letter but will include three representatives of specialist associations or societies in rotation. It is envisaged that these 2 positions will rotate every two years. Invitations to the associations who will represented at the outset will be based on the distribution of the first cohort of surgical leads appointed.
