Dr Roel Hompes graduated as MD at the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium in 2002. He has undergone extensive training in the field of Coloproctology and completed a postgraduate training in two renowned UK expert centres (Oxford and Basingstoke). From 2013 untill 2017 he worked as a consultant at the department of colorectal surgery in Oxford. Since October 2017, he is a staff member of the Department of Surgery at the AMC in Amsterdam. He is especially skilled in all aspects of minimal invasive surgery, including advanced laparoscopic, robotic and transanal surgery (TEM/TAMIS/R-TAMIS/taTME). Particular interests include surgical innovation, surgical training and research into improving approaches for management of early rectal cancer, distal rectal cancer and “beyond TME” surgery.
