Mr Ian Lindsey was appointed as Consultant Colorectal Surgeon at the Oxford Radcliffe NHS Trust in 2002. He is currently Clinical Lead for Pelvic Floor Surgery. He qualified in 1988 from the University of Melbourne.
He undertook General Surgery training in Australia at the Alfred Hospital, before entering the Australasian Colorectal Fellowship programme. One year of this was spent at St Vincent�s and Box Hill Hospitals, Melbourne with the second in Oxford. In between he spent 2 years of research in Oxford into pelvic dysfunction. This research won prizes including the HJ Windsor Prize, the Brian Smith Memorial Foundation Award, the Mark Killingback Prize (twice), the New York Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons Prize, the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons Robert W. Beart Jr. Impact Paper of the Year Award, the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland (ACPGBI) Colon and Rectal Disease Research Foundation Poster Prize.
He has published over a hundred papers including five randomised controlled trials, 15 book chapters and has edited a major textbook of pelvic floor disorders. He has given over thirty international invited lectures. He has supervised two pelvic floor MD theses. He has tertiary expertise in colorectal surgery particularly pelvic floor disorders, laparoscopic colorectal surgery and perineo-proctology. He is Program Chair for the National Pelvic Floor Society.
