Consultant General, Laparascopic and Colorectal Surgeon
Vimal Hariharan is a consultant surgeon at North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust. He graduated from Imperial College London in 2005 incorporating formal research at the Royal Brompton Hospital leading to a BSc in cardiovascular sciences. He undertook his basic surgical training in Oxford; training in surgery and Critical care Medicine. He completed higher surgical training in London, rotating through general, vascular, upper GI benign and cancer work, before sub specialising in colorectal surgery. He also completed his endoscopic training and is accredited as a JAG endoscopist performing all diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures.
He maintains a broad range of surgical practice and covers all aspects of emergency surgery at Hinchingbrooke hospital as well as a range of general procedures such as gallbladder surgery, hernia repair, abdominal wall reconstruction and laparoscopic colorectal resections for cancer and inflammatory bowel pathology. He is also a regular endoscopist at Whipps Cross Hospital London, and is appointed as a Honorary Consultant Surgeon for Barts Health NHS Trust.
He works as a GMC associate and has an interest in medical education, completing a UNICON teaching qualification from Oxford where he was a clinical tutor for three years. He is an invited Examiner at FRCS Whipps Cross Course and has been chair of international scientific meetings as well as publishing and writing book chapters within his specialist field. He has also been the local lead investigator for a multi national multi centre trial.
