Mr Jonathan Barker undertook his preclinical training at the University of St. Andrews before moving on to the University of Manchester for his clinical training, graduating in 2002. He undertook his post graduate surgical training in the North West region. During his training, Mr Barker spent a period of time in the national Intestinal Failure Unit at Salford Royal Hospital which specialises in the complex surgical and medical management of patients with intestinal failure.
Mr Barker’s clinical practice includes all aspects of colorectal surgery including laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery for bowel cancer. He also has a special interest in inflammatory bowel disease, colonoscopy, haemorrhoid surgery and hernia repairs.
Mr Barker enjoys teaching and has undertaken a Diploma in Medical Education. He is Surgical Tutor at the trust, a role which involves educational and organisational responsibilities for trainee surgeons. He has recently taken up the role of Assessment Lead for undergraduate doctors at the trust.
