I am a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham and a Reader in Surgery & Cancer Genetics at the University of Birmingham.
Clinically I have interests in laparoscopic cancer surgery, especially rectal cancer, advanced colorectal cancer, pelvic floor disorders and advanced endoscopy.
I run a research group based within the Institute of Cancer and Genomic Sciences at the University of Birmingham, funded by Cancer Research UK, the MRC and the Wellcome Trust. We use advanced genome sequencing techniques to answer translationally relevant questions about cancer biology. My current cancers of interest are colorectal, sarcoma and oesophagogastric although I collaborate with colleagues researching AML, ALL, CLL, lung, bladder, brain and skin cancer. I am an experienced bioinformatician and utilise big datasets to answer questions about cancer biology at the population level.
