Further to the report on Diversity from Baroness Kennedy, and to our own survey of our membership in November and of the Council of ACPGBI Equality Diversity and Inclusion workshops are being run in each Chapter.
The aim is:
Invite colorectal surgeons, medical students, trainees, SAS doctors, Clinical nurse specialists whom you work with so that we can canvas opinion on what the issues are that need addressing locally in each region
We will record the meeting, analyse the themes and these will set the strategy for the new ACPBI EDI Committee.
We will then work with ASGBI, AUGIS and the RCS to address the equality diversity and inclusion issues that people in our region are experiencing.
We will ask two people from the region (who do have to be ACP members – again, nurses, trainees, SAS doctors or consultants) to nominate themselves to be on the EDI Steering Group at the ACP. If we get >2 nominations, we will have a regional election.
This group will elect the EDI Committee and its Chair.
Any election will take place after the workshop, after we’ve had a chance to circulate the findings from the workshop.
The workshops will be run like a mini focus group, over Zoom for 1 hour which will be split into break out rooms to discuss the issues that arise.
Please encourage your trainees and colleagues to attend, it is open to both members and non-members of the AGPGBI.
