At this year’s ACPGBI Annual Meeting, we held a dedicated session to honour the life and legacy of Professor Neil Smart — a colleague, mentor and friend whose impact will be felt for generations to come.

The session, A Celebration of Life, brought together deeply personal reflections and messages from friends, collaborators and the wider global colorectal community. It was a fitting and poignant tribute, reminding us not only of Neil’s outstanding contributions to colorectal surgery, but also of his dedication to his patients, his warmth, generosity of spirit and unwavering commitment to our profession.

This celebration will remain in our memories — a testament to the remarkable mark Neil leaves behind in our community, his patients and the many lives he inspired.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Justin Davies, Laura Hancock, Katie Adams (Chair of External Affairs), Sayso Medical, ACPGBI and all our members around the world who shared their memories, messages and love.
