About ACPGBI

Registration is open!

We are delighted to inform you that registration is OPEN for the 2022 Advanced Coloproctology Course on 22-23 March 2023.

The course has been running successfully for almost 30 years and it will be the 3rd year of delivering the course in its virtual format. We feel that being able to deliver the course online is important as it opens up the course to a wider audience – consultants, trainees, and allied healthcare professionals, both in the UK and overseas. The virtual format also allows us to deliver the content “on-demand” after the course for those wishing to watch it at their convenience. Our aim is to keep registration costs as low as possible to allow maximum participation and, once again, we are pleased to announce that this year there will be no course registration fee for those from low-income and middle-income countries*.

The course has the underlying ethos of delivering a concise summary of subject areas that colorectal trainees need to know to pass the final FRCS examination (with content mapped to the ISCP curriculum), as well as providing practical tips and updates of clinical issues that consultant surgeons will meet in their regular practice. The course aims to support and improve the clinical practice of those who attend in order to benefit patients.

The format includes sessions comprising of a series of short presentations by a well-chosen faculty, followed by a panel discussion where each of the presentations are discussed on a practical basis. The discussions are led by the chairpersons allowing for interrogation of the panel of speakers.

A key feature of the course is its interactive nature. The live audience is able to participate in online polls and submit questions to the faculty. Some of these will be put to the faculty by the chairpersons and faculty behind the scenes will also try to answer as many questions as possible online in the chat box.

A regular component of the course is the opportunity for the trainees in the audience to start the day by participating in mock FRCS examination vivas with real-time feedback. Even for those not about to sit the examination, these sessions are a great learning opportunity for all. We ask for trainees to volunteer to be mock candidates for the viva sessions. Unfortunately, out of respect for our mock viva candidates, the viva sessions will not be recorded to be available on demand.

We also ask our faculty to provide us with an abstract of their talks which we compile into an abstract book that is sent to all our participants. This is another fabulous resource.

We hope that those who join and have never attended before will appreciate the quality and value of what we will present and consider attending again in the future. Last year we had more than 30 expert faculty with over 800 registrations from around the world and over 330 questions sent in from our audience.

We are very grateful for the support from our industry sponsors which enables us to offer the course to as many as possible whilst at the same time keeping the costs to participants low. I would strongly urge you to show your appreciation by engaging with the industry sessions.
