Chairman for External Affairs Committee Sought

We wish to appoint a Chairman to lead the new External Affairs Committee.

 

Background information:

ACPGBI is committed to ensuring that all external communication is clear, effective and is conducted in an appropriate and professional manner. To achieve this it is necessary to ensure that appropriate organisational structures, channels of communication and clear responsibilities are in place. At all times the ACPGBI will endeavour to achieve the highest standards of external relations.
 
The External Affairs Committee incorporates the former Public Relations & Ethics Committee and several related committees as well as professional Associations
 
Responsibilities of External Affairs Committee
(a)   Ensure consistent, professional and effective ACPGBI external communication takes place via all available channels with members, patients and the wider public.
 
(b)   Coordinate and maintain ACPGBI communication with patients, relevant charities and other professional Associations.
 
(c)    Ensure effective use of electronic media in presenting ACPGBI policies, clinical and academic documents and corporate communications.
 
(d)    Ensure press communications are handled consistently and professionally and in a timely fashion.
 
(e)   Ensure that training is provided to enhance ACPGBI communication skills.
 
The Chairman will become a member of the ACPGBI Executive Board and report to Council. It is anticipated that the External Affairs Committee will convene at least quarterly and predominantly be conducted through telephone conference facilities.
The Chairman will be the ACPGBI representative on the BSG Council.

At least one member from a non-surgical discipline (usually a Council member)
A nominated member of the Nurses’ Forum
 
 
Term of tenure: three years with the possibility of extending term by up to three years on an annual basis.
 
Eligibility: All Ordinary Members are eligible to apply.
 
Application process: Eligible members who wish to apply must submit a completed nomination form and a one page of A4 statement outlining their suitability for the post.
The proposer must be a Council member but the seconder can be any Ordinary Member.

Closing date for applications: Wednesday, 28 September 2011
Applications must be returned to the Honorary Secretary, Mr Adam Scott, at the Association Secretariat.
 
Appointment process: if there is more than one applicant a secret ballot of Council members will be conducted.

Who is Eligible to Apply?

These vacancies are open to Ordinary Members, Overseas Members and those Honorary Members with voting rights. We particularly wish to encourage younger consultants to apply for these elected posts to promote wider representation of The Association of Coloproctology.

Application and Appointment Process

Download the application form which is posted below. The completed form must be accompanied by a brief CV of the applicant (one page of A4 maximum).

Each application must be seconded by a member of the ACPGBI who has voting rights (Ordinary Members, Overseas Members and some Honorary Members) and be returned to the Honorary Secretary, Mr Adam Scott, at the Association secretariat no later than Wednesday, 28 September 2011.

If there is more than one applicant for a post, the appointment will be elected by a secret ballot of Council members.  

Term of Service

The tenure for all elected members shall be three years in the first instance with a possibility of re-election for a further three years thereafter making a total of six years.
