Midsummer Dinner at the Royal College of Surgeons

£35,000

Asha Senapati Midsummer Dinner 2009 3

A dinner was held at the Royal College of Surgeons of England on 26 June 2008. It started with a reception in the acclaimed Hunterian Museum which included a quiz about the exhibits. Guests then were entertained at dinner in the Edward Lumley Hall.

The meal was superbly served by the staff of the Royal College of Surgeons, as well as a host of young waiters and waitresses who volunteered their services for the evening. During the meal raffle prizes were sold; guests received a gift with each ticket.

An auction of promises was conducted by Nick Martineau of Christie’s who ran the auction with great skill and humour, and to maximum effect. Azmina Verjee, a supporter and patient with Crohn’s disease gave the appeal. She received a standing ovation following a most moving speech. Our after dinner speaker was Evan Davis (of the Today programme, Dragons’ Den and much more) who spoke with passion and aplomb.

The evening was rounded off by a superb musical event by Michael Mates and William Godfree including renditions of Flanders and Swann. A clear £35,000 profit was made from the evening, from our generous sponsors and from the many donations by people who could not attend the dinner.
