Why you should
Around 800,000 people in the UK have a serious bowel disease. While there is great potential for advances in treatment, it has historically been a grossly under-funded area of medicine, meaning that many patients have died or suffered unnecessarily. BDRF was established to deal with this problem.
We are the only UK charity to fund research into all serious bowel diseases.
Out Bursary scheme funds research that advances the treatment and cure of bowel disease. In 2010 we provided £341,000 worth of funding, supporting research into such issues as bowel cancer, incontinence and rectal prolapse. Our focus when awarding bursaries is on projects which offer real hopes of progress for existing patients.
Through our network of Research Trial Recruiters (RTRs) we are also working to ensure that researchers in clinical trials are able to recruit the necessary participants. Currently too many trials fail due to a lack of patient participants; our aim is to ensure that this no longer happens.
